Yet another trophy for Muir !

After an excellent season, Gordon Muir was the comfortable winner as choice for Murrayfield’s player of the year. As well as his leading role in Murrayfield I’s ELTTL Premier Division victory, he also picked up the Michael McLaren Quaich for winning the Edinburgh Championships.

Hannah claims club championship

John Hannah is the Murrayfield club champion for 2020.  He defeated Krzysztof Borkowicz 4-1 in a well contested final, held at the Pop in & Play venue at the Gyle Shopping Centre. Afterwards Hannah was presented with the Roger Thomas Quaich – given to the club 4 years ago by Roger.

Q&A – Charlie McGowan

Since he began playing at the club in 2013 Charlie has proved himself to be one of the most enthusiastic and able members of the club. Though still only 14, he’s been ‘one to watch’ for several years.

He’s impressed his coaches with his attitude. With his teammate Haydn Jackson he trains for lengthy periods – it can be difficult to get them off the table at times! Charlie has a really creative aspect to his game with lots of variation and subtlety to his play.

Hannah & Borkowicz set to battle for Murrayfield crown

Despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, Murrayfield have been able to hold their 2020 club championship. It has been taking place at the club’s Pop up & Play venue at the Gyle Shopping Centre over the last fortnight. The semi-final stage was reached this week. There are now only two players with a chance of winning the championship.

Q&A – Calum Morrison

Calum Morrison has been part of Murrayfield Table Tennis Club for roughly 12 years. Since he began he has shown an excellent attitude in training and calmness in match situations. In junior sessions he was often the first to get on the table and the last to leave it. His play has been marked by a high level of consistency and mental focus. This was illustrated in some amazing ELTTL Handicap Cup matches in which he clawed back huge deficits-often winning 20 + plus points in a row!

Spot the Ball

The overall winner of our Spot the Ball competition was Jason Fleming! Congratulations to Jason (490 points)! It was a long drive but we’ve made it to the end. The end of the competition was very tight. The last round decided the victory, with Jason winning the final round and thereby the grand prize – a £60 voucher to TOPSPIN Sports.
