Murrayfield I finish on Top

Murrayfield I have won the ELTTL Premier Division Title, finishing 6 points ahead of Edinburgh University I. In doing so, Murrayfield followed up their win in the truncated 2019-20 season. The University team included two very strong players this season in Kevin Qu and Christopher Wong and were a real threat.  Murrayfield III completed an impressive season with a strong 3rd place.

Murrayfield IV secure Premier promotion

Team IV had a very successful season, finishing as runners-up in ELTTL Division 1, behind a strong Haddington I side. Haddington, led by Pete Lugton, were worthy champions. Team IV finished one point ahead of Edinburgh University II, securing a place in the Premier Division for season 2022-23. Here, team captain Colin Clark reflects on the season.

Zihao stars for Team II

Monday evening saw an entertaining and enjoyable postponed ELTTL match between team II and Penicuik I. Zihao came in to join Keith and Charlie for team II. Penicuik I were represented by David Melrose, Colin Green & Iain Johnson. Iain sporting a very impressive lockdown beard!

Promising start in SNL 2021-22

Six Murrayfield sides took part in the opening set of fixtures as the Scottish National League restarted on Saturday (October 9th). It was a good day for the club at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth with all the teams picking up at least one point. A number of new members were in action and all fitted in well and contributed to the successful day.

From adult beginner to national champion – Charlie Ellis’s TT story (part 1 of 2)

Our latest interview is with Charlie Ellis. Charlie took up the game fairly late in life and began in the bottom division of the ELTTL. He has since risen to be Edinburgh champion, an ELTTL Premier League winner, vets’ national champion and Scottish ping pong champion. Murrayfield and ELTTL President Lindsay Muir considers these achievements to be unheard of for someone taking up the game so late in life. Charlie has also been involved with writing about TT and doing research on the sport’s history. This interview (conducted by Gordon Muir) focuses on Charlie’s initial period as a TT player and some of the lessons he’s learnt.

The MTTC Championship is finally finished

The much delayed final of the 5th place tournament finally has finally taken place. In case you’ve forgotten, the main event was won by John Hannah who defeated Krzysztof Borkowicz in the final. In the 5th place ‘final’, club President Lindsay Muir took on Charlie McGowan at the Gyle Pop in & Play venue.
